In matters of style, Swim with current; In matters of Principle, Stand like a Rock

 I guess it's saying it don't matter what the style is. When someone says it all a matter of principle it's same as saying a moral basis for doing something.

  1. I think it means that you can change your ways or ideas of doing things, but do not change your moral view of it.
